What has been your biggest challenge being a mother?

Mine has been trying to figure out what it is that my daughter wants/needs when she is fussy. Now she's at the age where she can point and sometimes say what she wants, but not all of the time. I feel bad when I don't know what she's trying to tell me and she gets so upset.

Mine is climbing and destory things. Caleb climbs everything. Today was on top of the table to get my knitting needles. HE has also learned how to pop the keys off my laptop. And when i tell him now he thinks its a game. I'm so trained from having to chase him around and pull off everything. he's even stacked stuff to climb to the top of the washer.
Haha Caleb sounds like a monkey like Bailey Alyse. They are so close in age to. Really, using Bailey Alyse's adjusted age they are the same age, haha.

Hi Heather,
I am not currently a mother of a toddler or infant, but I was a mother of both at the same time when my two oldest were little. I was just wondering...have you ever tried to teach your daughter sign language? We used that technique with all three of our kids, and it served so many purposes. Once they could gesture, they could tell us when they were hungry, thirsty, tired, aching. I swear it cut down on tantrums, it was beyond adorable to watch them do it, and it was great for party tricks! Just a thought.
We thought about doing this but my husband decided he didn't want to. We had some friends that did that and their kids didn't speak until they were each about 4 years old, so my husband was worried about that. It's gotten so much better now though because she points at what she wants and we will say the word and make her repeat it and then the next time she wants it she tries to say the word.

I hadn't heard the not talking thing. We always talked and signed at the same time, and we had talkers as soon as they could (right around 2) and now I can't get them to shut up!! It definitely takes both parents to make it work, so it might be better not to do it.

My biggest problem is potty training. She will go at school but not at home.
