Great job to everyone researching things before you use or ingest them. There is just so many fabulous and safe products out there. Has anyone seen the show, "Get Fresh With Sara Snow?" It is a real eye-opener to all we can do. Every little bit we can do makes a difference in our health and to our environment.

Maybe it's because we've used them for years and have gotten used to them, but we actually like the 7th Gen tissues better than any other brand. When we visit people and use their Kleenex or Puffs, ds1 (who has allergies) always end up sneezing even more because of the fluff that comes out with each tissue (bit of stuff that fly through the air).

Ditto the toilet paper. The Charmin that my FIL uses to fall apart easily; sure they're soft, but who wants to wipe poop with paper that falls apart? LOL!

Joanna, I usually do a Google search on a product to read a variety of reviews from different sources to make sure I get a balanced view of something before deciding whether to buy it.

I saw great reviews for Seventh Generation tissues, so I bought a few boxes online and they are the hardest tissues ever! I definitely can't use them on the baby and was very disappointed in my purchase. I do like the brand for cleaners though.

Nice tips gals! How do you distinguish the products which are really environmentally friendly versus ones that claim to be? Would you read reviews of the company and understand how and what they do with the products? I just wanted to learn more before deciding on the brands...

Mostly, I prefer to make my own cleaners using Annie B. Bond's "Better Basics for the Home" book and Karen Logan's "Green House, Green Planet" book. For paper products (tissues and paper towels) and feminine hygiene products, I use Seventh Generation stuff.

Just talked to my coworker and we were saying that a water boiler/warmer actually consumes a lot of electricity because it has to keep water warm. A good reminder is to unplug the warmer when you don't need it. That saves a lot of electricity over time. Obviously, the same goes for lights and other electronic devices...
