Just having trouble going to sleep lately. I think I have a lot of things on my mind and I worry about a lot of things. Things related to my work projects and things related to my husband. He has been so busy lately also that he is not getting enough sleep also... I can tell you that counting sheeps doesn't really help me....

Wonder if anyone else has experienced similar issue and whether there is something I can do to help it? I think my problem partly stems from stress...

I've never been much of a sleeper. I can't turn my mind off. If I have an ounce of energy left, I think about what.I could be getting done instead of sleeping.

The only semi-solution I've found is making myself lie down and watch a movie. I'll usually fall asleep because I can shut my mind off long enough to get tired. My husband hates it though, because now I fall asleep every time we lay down together to watch a movie.
Hi Ivy,
Thanks for the idea.. I agree TV or light movies can make my mind turn off. I did try that last night and I successfully turned my mind off:) I find that it is most difficult to go straight to sleep after working. I do programming and that makes my brain run!
I so agree with you that I am the type of person who wants to get more done with whatever time I get:) I wasn't like this before but as I get older, I want to accomplish more.. I feel that if I let every day slips by, in a few years down the road, I may realize that I haven't done anything! I want to pursue my dream and accomplish something meaningful...
Thanks Ivy!

Its funny how we all can't shut our mind off and always want to do more, while some ppl (especially guys) can easily fall asleep for 10+ hrs. I'm the same type as well - always think about what else I can do instead of sleeping.

I'm still in the search for the solution so I don't really have much suggestions. I do notice that I tend to sleep better when I have a very productive day - a day that I don't have time to think much, but simply focusing on completing all the tasks for the day. Those days I could sleep in minutes for good 8 hrs. Even my hubby envy me at that time. I think what happened is that although I was busy I wasn't worrying. I think that made a difference.

You may be interested in the book "How to stop worrying and start living" by Dale Carnegie. I remember one tip from the book: shut the door to the past and future, live in a day-tight compartment. This definitely takes discipline but I think it will make your life better if you have a lot to worry about the future.

I think exercise also help. A doctor said you will sleep better if you're physically more tired than mentally. Give it a try!

All the best,
Ada
Hi Ada,
Thanks for your ideas:) I agree that probably exercising will help with my sleep. I usually feel much more tired physically after I have gone to the gym that day. I should do more of that...

Thanks!
Jo

Yes, I completely relate with you. My mind is always going..I can't help thinking about what is next on my to do list. Once I have something set in my mind, I am so enthusiastic and excited about a new business idea, project, or class presentation that all my thoughts are focused on completing this..I have trouble sleeping.

I recently started taking a natural supplement called Melatonin, (you can find it in any health store) and it has done wonders to help calm my mind and get much needed rest.
Thanks Angel! I don't know much about Melatonin.. how does it help with sleeping? Is this something that can be found in natural food as well?
