Network for Wives

A Community Where Wives Connect

I'd like to know how other wives go about finding reliable references for help around the home. We had one experience with a landscape designer that was not good. What are your best sources for finding reliable local help? Our friends are spread all over the area.

Hi Dani,
As for local help, you can try using Yelp.com. It is a site where people to can give feedback and rate different things in the local area. If you go there and search for landscape designer in your area, for example, I searched for "landscape designer" and near "Redwood City", some results came up with people's feedback: http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=landscape+designer&ns=1&am....
You can even find the reviewer and send them private message to ask for more details on their experiences also.

Hope it helps!
Joanna
When looking for vendors for large projects-landscaping, renovations, concrete work, etc-I ask fellow members from my mother's club.

For home management kind of questions-how to best arrange my closet, weekly grocery shopping, meal planning, etc-I pull tidbits from the web: About.com, FlyLady,eHow, etc.

HTH.
Thanks! I love Yelp for restaurant and salon recs. Did not know I could email the reviewer directly for more details -- that's appropriate for landscapers but a bit much for nails!
I heard about Flylady years ago but started listening to her webcasts a few months ago. It hit me recently that what she's doing is providing a "good parent" voice in your head, to replace that overly stern inner critic.
